Calgary Scientific and Siemens Healthcare Team up on Results Distribution Extension

Partnership points to accessibility as the next big thing in the medical field

Calgary, AB - May 26, 2010 - Calgary Scientific Inc., of Alberta, Canada, a leading innovator in advanced visualization solutions and medical imaging web enabling platforms, has partnered with Siemens Healthcare, one of the world's largest suppliers to the healthcare industry and a trendsetter in medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and medical information technology. Through this collaboration, the companies will provide viewing capabilities with syngo®.via, Siemens newest imaging software, over the web through the PureWeb® platform from Calgary Scientific. This extension will be designed to allow physicians access to the results of their work from almost any device with a browser. The accessibility to results and images over devices such as a laptop or iPhone may allow review of work to take place from anywhere, where access to a network is given. It is also conducive to greater collaboration as physicians will be able to call-up results and images from remote locations to share with colleagues, other specialists and referring physicians. Of course, customer compliance with all applicable data privacy and medical device laws in using these new features is required.

Accessibility to files and images over the web by PureWeb technology is game-changing functionality and something physicians are starting to demand. The implications are all positive with such added accessibility leading to collaboration and faster response times, thus enabling better care for remote patients. The PureWeb platform is unique as it requires zero downloads, yet offers all of the functionality that the product would offer at a traditional workstation.

At the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) show in Chicago, Siemens launched syngo.via, its imaging software for multimodality reading of clinical cases. With syngo.via, Siemens is in a unique position to offer innovative integration of imaging modalities and image reading software in one complete solution. “By combining Calgary Scientific’s innovative PureWeb technology with syngo.via, we will be able to provide a truly web-based solution for result and image review,” says Arthur Kaindl, CEO of Image and Knowledge Management, Siemens Healthcare. “This integrated solution will help further improve our customers’ ability to provide high-quality care efficiently, because the use of web technology and mobile devices gives them the flexibility they need to quickly deliver diagnostic information to their referring physicians.“

“We have known for the past year that our PureWeb platform had the incredible power to web-enable third-party applications while maintaining the superb functionality, speed and security that physicians have become accustomed to, in a product from Siemens,” says Byron Osing, CEO and Chair of Calgary Scientific. “What we want is to allow physicians to work from where they need to be. This freedom is going to lead to faster response times, more collaboration, better quality of life for physicians and ultimately, better patient care. Isn’t that what this industry is all about?”

This partnership reflects a successful long-standing relationship between Calgary Scientific and Siemens Healthcare.
